The Club

Itai Doshin Aikido Club was formed in 2007 by Mike Higgins Sensei and is directly linked to Japan as members of the Owari Aikikai under the chairmanship of Seizo Takimoto Shihan 8th Dan Aikikai who are registered with the Aikido World Headquarters (The Hombu Dojo) in Shinjuku, Tokyo. We are the first club outside of Japan to be part of Owari Aikikai so this is a special honour for us. Owari Aikikai consists of 21 dojos and approximately 500 students
We teach traditional Aikido as developed by the founder Morihei Ueshiba and are privileged to receive technical direction from Toshiaki Kawachi Shihan 6th Dan.
It is worth pointing out that Aikido is particularly suitable for women, as correctly practised Aikido is not dependent upon physical strength. By all means call us for a chat but the easiest way of seeing what we do is to come along and watch a session.
We welcome new students who wish to experience this soft, dynamic, yet powerful martial art, as well as experienced students from other clubs.
Our Principal Instructor is Mike Higgins Sensei who visited and trained in Japan in 2016 and 2018. Tony Waknell Sensei visited Japan in 2017 to continue strengthening our relationship and friendship with Owari Aikikai.
Dojo’s
We offer Aikido lessons at two Dojos in the UK; one in Taunton, Somerset and the other in Evesham, Worcestershire. Both venues offer a spacious environment for learning Aikido techniques both effectively and safely. The Taunton Dojo offers both children and adult classes and the Evesham Dojo offers classes for adults only.
Insurance & Policy Documents

Instructors and students are insured through the Independent Martial Arts Sports Association.
The Club is focused on ensuring it has a strong constitution and policies that demonstrate the ethos of our approach to Aikido and the teaching thereof, including the protection of children.
